A tornado forms, touches down, carves a swath of destruction across the landscape, and disappears into the clouds from which it came. The scientists, witnesses, and survivors may marvel at the storm's power and curse its destructive nature, but each may silently wonder what can be done to deal with the next tornadic outbreak. Such musings have led some people to develop ideas about how to better prepare for and forecast tornadoes and have led others to wonder if they can be removed as a threat altogether.
