Although the AIDS epidemic continues to spread, many gay men continue to have unsafe sex. There appears to be a general lack of responsibility and concern toward prevention in gay populations. Many HIV-positive men who are aware that they carry the virus continue having unsafe sex with uninfected partners. Most AIDS activists and programs emphasize the responsibilities of the uninfected.
