About the author: Donald Bruce is the director of the Society, Religion, and Technology Project of the Church of Scotland, an interdisciplinary association that studies the relationship between ethics and technology.
Author’s Note: From 1993–98, a working group of the Society, Religion and Technology Project (SRT) of the Church of Scotland examined the ethical issues of genetic engineering in non-human species, culminating in the recent book Engineering Genesis by Donald and Ann Bruce (Earthscan Publications, November 1998, ISBN 1 85383 570 6). The inter-disciplinary group of experts included Roslin scientist Dr Ian Wilmut, head of the team which cloned Dolly.
