About the author: Lyn Nofziger, a former presidential aide to Ronald Reagan, is a Republican political consultant and a novelist.

Militias consist of patriotic citizens dedicated to protecting liberty and resisting government intrusion into their lives. Such decent and law-abiding Americans correctly fear the possibility that government could take away their rights, including the right to own guns and to use their property as they choose. They also fear the advent of a one-world government. When the federal government oversteps its bounds, these Americans justifiably become angry and outraged. These citizens have every right to prepare to defend their freedom against government tyranny.
