About the author: Norman Olson is the commander of the Northern Michigan Regional Militia, which he cofounded in 1994. Olson, also a Baptist minister, testified before a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on militias in June 1995.
Armed citizen militias act as a rightful defense against external and internal threats to Americans' security and liberty. Militias— a manifestation of humans' instinctive desire to protect themselves —are purely defensive groups that devote themselves to civilian preparedness.
