About the author: Ofer Zur, formally an officer in the Israeli army, is currently a clinical psychologist living in California.

Bloodshed in the Middle East is concentrated in areas where the Israeli army is protecting small Jewish settlements in a vast Palestinian population. Any Palestinian gunman or suicide bomber can walk into these settlements and kill Israelis. As peace may be impossible because of the long-standing distrust between Israelis and Palestinians, a wall must be built to forcibly separate the Israeli and Palestinian populations in order to guarantee the safety of both peoples. This would allow for healing over time, which might lead to peace in the distant future, but would almost certainly lessen the violence that currently perpetuates the conflict.
