Gay teenagers face many difficulties about their sexuality. Their family, friends, teachers, and church are often unable to accept their homosexuality. Because of their fears about being condemned because of their sexuality, gay teens sometimes remain in the closet and are therefore unable to meet other gays who could help them come out, meet others like them, and provide role models. Because homosexuality is often either persecuted or ignored by society and schools, many gay teens become deeply depressed and some even attempt suicide. In addition, gay teens often lament missing out on the relationships and experiences their heterosexual friends enjoy.
