Stephen D. Mosher
In the following viewpoint, Stephen D. Mosher contends that it is unrealistic and unfair to expect athletes to serve as heroes and role models for the rest of society. He argues that while the talent of certain athletes, such as Tiger Woods, may be heroic, this does not mean that such heroism is applicable to the lifestyle of the typical fan. In fact, according to Mosher, it is unwise to believe in the nobility of athletic competition since many of the participants behave poorly and since many team sports may foster negative social values.
