In the years between 1985 and 1990, the number of sexual harassment complaints filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) went from 4,953 to 5,557. Since 1989, the number of sexual harassment charges has increased 112 percent. According to the Center for Women in Government, in 1993, 1,546 victims of sexual harassment won $25.2 million in benefits from their employers, including back pay, remedial relief, damages, promotions, and reinstatements. In response to this trend, organizations have sought the guidance of experts to help them deal with complaints before they are filed.
