Warren A. Nord teaches philosophy and religion at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the author of Religion and American Education: Rethinking a National Dilemma. In the following viewpoint, he discusses his findings from reviewing high school textbooks and national content standards being developed by teachers and others. He argues that religion is being systematically excluded from public school curricula. Such exclusion impoverishes the education students receive and betrays a hostility to religion.
