Tony Youens
In the following selection, Tony Youens maintains that most psychics use well—known tricks of the trade, such as asking subtle questions to draw information from the client. The client is then presented with this "psychic knowledge" when in fact the customer, unwittingly or unknowingly, gave the psychic the information in the first place. In addition, most psychics spend much of their sessions in character readings, in which they give mostly flattering portrayals of their client's personality. Furthermore, Youens asserts, most psychic predictions are extremely general in nature and could apply to almost anybody. If the information given by the psychic does not make sense to the client, the psychic can claim that the information is true but the client simply does not understand it.
