The file drawer problem played a role in the ganzfeld experiments analyzed by Charles Honorton. Parapsychologists Honorton, Carl Sargent, and others performed many ganzfeld experiments (an experiment in which the subject describes an image that is being sent telepathically by a person in another room) that yielded similar results. In 1981, Honorton did a metanalysis of all the ganzfeld experiments published up to that time-forty—two in all-and found that twenty—three experiments in ten different laboratories had hits (instances in which the receiver described and chose the correct picture that was being sent telepathically). This translated into a hit rate of 55 percent-well above what could be explained by chance. However, Ray Hyman, a staunch critic of psi research, disagreed with Honorton's conclusion that the results showed the existence of extrasensory perception. Hyman agreed that the results were an anomaly that needed...
