The coalition was formed in 1997 in response to the growing number of violent crimes committed by athletes in all areas of the sports world. It believes that athletes should be held to the same standards and laws as the rest of society, and it works to educate the public on this issue.

The foundation helps educate the public by providing facts, statistics, and background data on sports—related issues for women and girls.
