Ann Bradley

In the following viewpoint, Ann Bradley asserts that a woman who aborts a fetus that has a handicap such as Down’s Syndrome is making an ethical decision. Bradley argues that since the woman would be responsible for raising the handicapped child, only she can decide whether to bring the pregnancy to term. In her view, doctors and policy makers should not weigh the theoretical interests of the fetus against the real rights of the mother. Similarly, Bradley believes that since the fetus is not a person, fears that abortion of handicapped fetuses will lead to euthanasia of handicapped children or adults are groundless.
