Racism continues to be a real force in American life with severe consequences for millions of people. What is more, aspects of it can be scientifically measured. Hopefully, this is old hat for those who have been supportive of civil rights struggles but, unfortunately, we must continue to assert and demonstrate it. Because the right, as well as segments of the liberal camp, argue that affirmative action is based on past discrimination that no longer exists, it continues to be necessary to point out that discrimination is demonstrable and real today.
