During the 1992 election campaign, voters were angered because they felt that politicians and the traditional media were out of touch with the everyday concerns of regular people. Alternative media, such as talk shows, offered voters and politicians a way to communicate with each other. Talk shows are a healthy supplement to the regular media in elections because they discourage negative campaigning, encourage voter participation, and develop voter interest in politics and candidates.
