The Internet has given hundreds of thousands of people the opportunity to publish their views in personal websites and “weblogs” (online journals) that can be read by other computer users. In the following viewpoint journalist Paul Andrews argues that newspapers and other traditional media institutions are being usurped by individuals and online communities who use the Internet to publish news and commentary. More and more people are getting their news and information from independent websites rather than newspapers or other traditional media sources.
