Hypnosis has been around throughout the ages. It has been described on stone walls in ancient Egypt. Ancient fathers of Chinese medicine wrote about hypnotic techniques. There are also biblical references to hypnosis in the Old and New Testaments.
Today hypnosis is still used, primarily by psychologists to help people recall traumatic events buried in the unconscious or to aid people in stopping negative behaviors, such as smoking or overeating. Another lesser-known use of hypnosis is to take a subject back in time, back to a previous life. This technique, known as past-life regression, is practiced by some psychologists to help patients understand who they are today by understanding who they were in another life.
