Arthur Hoppe
In the summer of 1998, two U.S. embassies in Africa were bombed—the suspected work of Osama bin Laden, a self- proclaimed Islamic fundamentalist who is implicated in numerous acts of terrorism. In response to the embassy bombings, the U.S. fired cruise missiles at the Muslim countries of Sudan and Afghanistan. Arthur Hoppe condemns the actions taken by the United States government in the following viewpoint, claiming that the U.S. attack was as much an example of terrorism as were the bombings in Africa.
