Muzaffar Iqbal
Muzaffar Iqbal is the founder and president of the Center for Science and Islam and editor of its Journal of Islamic Perspectives on Science. In the following viewpoint he argues that much of the Muslim world has suffered under European rule, which has undermined Islamic beliefs and traditions. He argues that many people who call for the “reform” of Islam have blindly embraced Western values and have neglected Islam’s proper role as a political force and shaper of society. The billion people that constitute the global Muslim community (ummah) must resist the decay of both Western and Islamic civilization and embrace Islam not only as personal belief but as a total way of life and superior alternative to Western civilization.
