Even as you read this, there are Mexican women at pay phones just across the border waiting to go into labor so they can call an American ambulance, walk into the United States, catch a ride to the nearest public hospital and proceed to give birth at public expense. At least that’s how Ron Prince tells it. The reason, says the California activist, is simple: the baby automatically becomes an American citizen, entitled to all social welfare benefits, and the mother gains permanent immunity from deportation. Then she can bring in her husband and other children with full legal status, allowing them to further abuse our hospitality.
