Amnesty International

In the following viewpoint, the worldwide human rights organization Amnesty International asserts that the United States should ratify the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), a treaty that sets worldwide standards on women’s equality. The organization maintains that America’s failure to support CEDAW is based on several fallacies. According to Amnesty International, CEDAW will not supersede American law or lead to a
sharp increase in lawsuits. In addition, Amnesty International contends that despite the claims of people who do not want the U.S. Senate to ratify the convention, CEDAW will not impose liberal views concerning sexuality on U.S. citizens.
