The yellow pages of most city phone books have headings titled HOMELESS SERVICES, SOCIAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, and HUMAN SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS. Within are listed the names and numbers of shelters and other services that help homeless children. Many cities also have offices for national organizations like the Salvation Army, Volunteers of America, and Goodwill Industries. These are private organizations that provide meals, shelter, clothing, or counseling to homeless children and their families.
