American Cancer Society

In the following viewpoint the American Cancer Society (ACS) asserts that smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. According to the ACS, smoking contributes to lung cancer, heart disease, bronchitis, and emphysema, among other ailments. The ACS contends that quitting smoking greatly reduces a person’s risk of contracting cancer or other smoking-related diseases. The ACS is a nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
