The Agency for Toxic Substances is responsible for preventing public exposure to contamination from hazardous waste sites, accidental chemical releases, and from other sources of pollution. ATSDR regularly assesses the contamination on hazardous waste sites, publishes fact sheets with information about the effects of exposure to toxic waste, and supports research into public health issues associated with hazardous wastes.
