Part I: American Petroleum Institute, Part II: John L. Kennedy
In Part I of the following two-part viewpoint, the American Petroleum Institute (API) maintains that global oil reserves “are greater now than ever before.” The API contends that improved exploration technology and further discoveries of oil sources will add billions of barrels of crude oil to known reserves. In Part II, John L. Kennedy argues that because of adequate reserves, expanded production capacity, and untapped oil resources, the world will not experience an oil shortage. The API is a Washington, D.C., trade association that represents America’s petroleum industry. Kennedy is the editor in chief of the Oil and Gas Journal, a weekly petroleum industry magazine published in Houston,Texas.
