One of the explanations that ghost researchers give for haunted places is that the house (or other site) retains the spiritual energy of the people who lived-or died-there and the events that occurred there, especially if the people underwent great emotional upheaval or the events were emotion charged. Sometimes, a witness experiences this spiritual energy as a vague feeling of uneasiness or perhaps as lights and sounds that have no known source. At other times, witnesses experience something much more dramatic. For example, many people have reported witnessing the ghostly reenactment of Civil War battles at Gettysburg.
