David Pace
David Pace has been a reporter for the Associated Press (AP) since 1978. In the following viewpoint, he summarizes a study the AP conducted in 2000 to determine how the spread of Indian gaming had affected life on Indian reservations. According to Pace, Indian gaming has done very little to lessen the problems of unemployment and poverty on most reservations. The AP study found that the majority of revenues from Indian gaming are concentrated among a few very wealthy tribes. Pace also notes that the majority of tribes do not have casinos, and among tribes that do, only those located near major population centers have been very successful.
