Ida L. Castro

Ida L. Castro contends in the following viewpoint that women do not receive equal treatment in the workplace. She states that women are often paid less than men for the same job, due to women’s refusal to respond favorably to sexual advances made by male employers, and the pervasive belief that women’s work is somehow worth less than men’s—even when that work involves the same skills and responsibilities. Furthermore, Castro writes, traditionally female occupations pay much less than traditionally male occupations. Castro is the director-designate of the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor, a federal agency that promotes the welfare of wage-earning women.
