Barbie dolls are synonymous with American girls' fashion. One of the most popular toys ever invented, Barbie has provided American preteen girls with inspiration of how to look and dress for decades. The doll's manufacturer, Mattel, has created spin—off characters, doll clothing, books, board games, computer software, and other Barbie—related items. Many of the Barbie products emphasize fashion and the fashion industry. The dolls continue to be best—sellers into the twenty—first century; however, not everyone thinks Barbie is a positive influence.
