People tend to have strong opinions about whether evolution is fact or fiction. Most scientists accept evolution, and nonscientists who accept evolution are convinced that the overwhelming weight of scientific evidence is on their side. People who reject evolution often do so because they are convinced that evolution is inconsistent with their religious beliefs. They believe that the Bible provides us with a true account of the history of the earth and of the history of life on Earth. They believe that this account contradicts the account given by those scientists who assume that evolution takes place.
