Barbara Loe Fisher
Barbara Loe Fisher is cofounder and president of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC), an organization formed in 1982 by parents whose children died or suffered injuries after being vaccinated (Fisher’s oldest son suffered from multiple learning disabilities after an adverse reaction to a DPT vaccination in 1980 when he was two). The private association (originally called Dissatisfied Parents Together) works to help parents whose children have suffered adverse reactions to vaccines, monitors vaccine research and public policy, and opposes compulsory vaccination laws. In the following viewpoint, Fisher argues that government and health authorities have failed to be fully honest with parents about the risks of vaccines, which she contends have injured and killed many children. She asserts that no parents should be compelled to vaccinate their children.
