Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson was an architect, scientist, statesman, president, and author of the Declaration of Independence. His influence on the United States continues in many powerful ways today. One of the best ways to understand Jefferson is to study his many letters to friends and opponents. The following viewpoint is taken from a letter to Peter Carr, Jefferson’s fifteen-year-old nephew and ward. In the letter, Jefferson urges Carr to grow intellectually, morally, and physically.
