Paul Brownback
Paul Brownback’s education includes a B.S. from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a degree in theology from Talbot School of Theology in California, and a Ph.D. from New York University. He was president of Citadel Bible College in Arkansas when he wrote this selection regarding “self-love.” Brownback seeks to find a third alternative between two extreme ways of viewing ourselves. He rejects the negative, low self-esteem which troubles many people. But he also rejects the popular solution of telling people to have high self-esteem and pride. Writing from a Christian perspective, he suggests that people should “forget” themselves and focus on other people and on God.
