Bill Chalker is a chemist and noted ufologist in Australia. In the following selection, he describes an unusual event that happened to Nobel laureate Kary Mullis at his cabin in the woods in northern California. Mullis was walking in the dark with a flashlight when he was greeted by a glowing raccoon who spoke to him. The next thing Mullis remembers is walking along a road several hours later without his flashlight. He discovers he has an inexplicable feeling of fear and dread in a part of his woods which lasts until he takes out his feelings of anger and frustration by shooting a rifle at the trees. Mullis later discovers that his daughter and a friend had similar experiences when they visited his cabin. Although Mullis is unable to duplicate his experience or perform any tests...
