Rick Berman

Hard-core alcohol abusers whose binges result in blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) far in excess of .08 percent cause the majority of alcohol-related traffic fatalities, Rick Berman argues in the following viewpoint. He maintains, therefore, that encouraging states to enact laws that set drunk driving arrest thresholds at .08 is misguided. Such laws will hurt the responsible social drinker who is not impaired with a .08 BAC and does not solve the problem of drunk drivers who cause accidents. Rick Berman is general counsel for the American Beverage Institute.
