Ian Player
Ian Player is director of the Wilderness Foundation, a South African–based preservationist organization. He was for many years a wildlife conservation officer and wilderness guide. In the following viewpoint, taken from a speech given at the Royal Geographical Society in London, he argues that African wildlife areas have scientific, cultural, and spiritual value for both African and non-African peoples, and that special efforts must be made to preserve Africa’s remaining wildernesses.
