There are six basic trigonometric functions that are employed in the study of angles and angular relationships in planar and 3-dimensional figures, also known as trigonometry. They are sine (abbreviated as sin x), cosine (abbreviated as cos x), tangent (abbreviated as tan x), cosecant (abbreviated as csc x), secant (abbreviated as sec x), and cotangent (abbreviated as cot x). The inverses of these functions are denoted as sin-1 x, cos-1 x, tan-1 x, csc-1 x, sec-1 x, and cot-1 x. Note that this notation denotes inverse and not to the power of -1. In order to express a positive integer power of a trigonometric function the exponent is written directly after the name of the function such as cos2x = [cos x]2. Trigonometric functions are also sometimes called circular functions because they are functions describing the horizontal and vertical positions...
