The "coming of sound" meant different things to the production and exhibition ends of the industry. Although the pace of equipment installation varied considerably with each studio, the main producers had the capability of releasing dialogue films by the end of 1928. The wiring of theaters, however, took longer. The point at which 50 percent of theaters were projecting synchronized sound did not occur until sometime in 1930.
