The glue that holds the Internet together is TCP/IP. Once the U.S. Department of Defense mandated the use of TCP/IP, vendors began to incorporate it into their products. With the release of the World Wide Web application in the 1990s, TCP/IP connectivity brought graphical web pages into the homes and businesses of millions worldwide.
