A task bar is a graphic tool bar used in most Windows applications (such as Windows 2000) to select, through the mouse, one of a number of active or open applications and programs. (The tool bar within a graphical user interface (GUI) is a row, column, or block of on-screen buttons or icons. When these buttons or icons are clicked on with the mouse, certain functions of the application are activated. The task bar is just one type of tool bar.)
