Susruta stressed the importance of sterilizing wounds and also introduced several types of surgery, including nasal plastic surgery and abdominal and cataract surgery. Susruta trained his students to practice surgical techniques on vegetables and dead animals before performing actual surgery on a patient. His medical texts were translated into Arabic during the late eighth century A.D.
