Indian mathematician, astronomer, and astrologer who applied mathematical techniques to problems in astronomy, such as the study of spheres. His Siddhantasekhara, though a work of astronomy, contains chapters on arithmetic, algebra, and spheres. In the Dhikotidakarana (1039) he discussed solar and lunar eclipses, and in Dhruvamanasa (1056) he examined the problem of calculating planetary longitudes, eclipses, and planetary transits.
