1896-1986
American chemist recognized for his research concerning the nature of chemical bonds and the electronic structure of molecules. Mulliken's work on the fundamental principles of chemistry overlapped into quantum mechanics and atomic physics, and produced results important to all three fields. He also conducted landmark studies of atomic and molecular spectra. Mulliken received many awards for his work, including the 1966 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
