The human reproductive system is a set of organs which work together to produce offspring. The male and female reproductive systems work together to best facilitate survival of the developing embryo.

The male gametes are known as sperm or spermatozoa. The male reproductive system produces, stores, and releases these gametes. Males begin to produce sperm during puberty and continue to do so throughout most of their lives. Sperm have a structure which is directly related to their function. A large head contains the DNA, a narrow middle contains many mitochondria which produce the energy needed to move the flagellum, which propels the sperm through the female toward the egg.
