In England, lining up to get on a bus is called queuing. In computer language, a queue means to line up a job for the computer's Central Processing Unit (CPU) or a peripheral device. A job is any task that a computer system does. One type of queue is called a memory queue, which is a storage space in memory or on a disk that holds incoming transmissions until the computer can process them. Another example of a queue occurs when printing a file. When the user enters a PRINT command, the document is first copied into a special area called the print buffer or print queue, which is a temporary storage area, usually in RAM.
