An environmental advisory group created by President Bill Clinton in June 1993 to develop new approaches for combining environmental protection in the United States with economic development. The council is composed of 25 members drawn from government, industry, and environmental groups. One of the primary mandates of the President's Council on Sustainable Development is to develop plans for the United States to fulfill its role in the biodiversity, global warming, and other accords negotiated at the 1992 United Nations Earth Summit.
