1793-1867

French physician who wrote a major contribution to dermatology, Traité théorique et pratique des maladies de la peau (1826-1827), and a landmark study of kidney disease, Traité des maladies des reins, et des altérations de la sécrétion urinaire (1839-1841). Both of these works include gigantic pathological atlases. His meticulous research furthered the understanding of albuminuria, the pituitary gland, tuberculosis, obesity, diabetes, human glanders, human farcy, anthrax, bacterial infections, and parasitic diseases such as schistosomiasis.
