1932-

American astronaut who flew in the original space shuttle missions and served as pilot of the Skylab space station project. He received his M.S. degree in aeronautical engineering in 1964 and was chosen by NASA in 1966 to be an astronaut. He served as pilot aboard the Skylab 2, the first piloted mission of the space station project. The crew returned to Earth after 28 days in space, setting what was then a record for a single space mission.
