German mathematician whose discoveries in enumerative geometry were long overlooked. Enumerative geometry is the branch of mathematics that looks at the portions of algebraic geometry having a finite number of solutions. Schubert established a system to solve enumerative geometry problems using methods developed by Michel Chasles. The relative lack of mathematical rigor led to a long period in which his results were overlooked, but many have been examined more thoroughly today and found to be correct.
